Need a quick and easy dessert? Chocolate Covered Strawberries look fancy, taste decadent, and are simple to make at home! Perfect for everyday snacking or special occasions, these are a keeper!
Today is National Strawberry Day! Strawberries are in season here in Florida and have been since November. This holiday makes sense here in Florida and for everywhere else, I just hope the warmer weather is right around the corner.
Whether you’re giving a gift to a loved one, friend, or even yourself, there’s nothing better than chocolate covered strawberries. Combine the rich chocolate outer shell with the refreshing sweetness in every bite. Delish! & the best part? This recipe is actually quite simple and can be made in about 30 minutes. Let’s get started.
Ingredients: Chocolate Covered Strawberries
- Chocolate – I say this all the time: if there are only 2 ingredients in a recipe, aim to use a high-quality ingredient. For chocolate you can use whichever you prefer: milk, dark, semi-sweet, or even white chocolate. Dark chocolate really pairs well with the sweetness of the strawberries. When melting the chocolate, you can use chocolate chips, but I’ve found that the chocolate bars turn out better (& prettier!)
- Strawberries – They’re in season now in Florida and are as sweet as can be. If you’re gifting these, try and go for the larger strawberries. If you’re making them for yourself, any size will really do!
- Coconut Oil – *optional* but highly recommended. Adding a little coconut oil to the melted chocolate allows for the chocolate to for almost like a ‘magic shell’. Is it essential? No. Will it add any coconut flavor? No. I do recommend adding it because it makes the chocolate smoother to work with.
How To Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Honest, once you see how easy these are to make at home, you’ll be able to enjoy them more often! I know this has been my ‘dessert’ of the week recently because they are just so easy to make! Let me know if you give them a try!
- Clean Your Strawberries: Rinse your berries and pat dry. The most important step – let the strawberries dry completely! I take a paper towel or dish towel and make sure they are completely dry. Chocolate will not stick to water, so this step is key! And if you have the strawberries in the refrigerator and take them out, the condensation will need to be dried as well. Dry strawberries are the key to the success of this recipe.
- Prepare Your Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Get your strawberries ready and place strawberries them right next to your pan. Also, place a pot holder next to the pan for when the chocolate is melted.
- Melt Chocolate. Fill the bottom of a medium-sized pot a third of the way with water and bring to simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, then place a large heatproof bowl on top. Add dark chocolate and coconut oil. Stir occasionally until chocolate has melted. When chocolate is completely smooth, remove from heat.
- Dip Strawberries: Hold your pot of chocolate at an angle. Grab strawberries by the stem and dip both sides in the chocolate making sure to shake off excess chocolate and place on your parchment paper. Continue doing this for all strawberries.
- Let the chocolate set: Allow the strawberries to sit at room temperature until they are completely dry. If you need to speed up the process you can place them in the refrigerator. Remember the refrigerator will create condensation and make it harder if you’re adding a drizzle of chocolate later.
- Gift or Enjoy. Either way, these strawberries are meant to be enjoyed.
